Pet-Damaged Subfloor
This project was a little more straightforward than some of the others we’ve done, but years of pet accidents had really done a number on the subfloor under the carpet. To get everything ready for the new Southwind Authentic Plank flooring, here’s what we did:
Floor Prep Steps:
✅ Pulled up the old carpet and checked for spots with obvious urine damage.
✅ Sanded down any areas where the particle board had swelled from moisture.
✅ Laid down 1/4″ APA-rated plywood across the whole floor to create a smooth, durable surface — perfect for installing LVP.
The prep itself wasn’t too tricky, but using high-quality plywood did add a bit to the overall cost. That said, it was worth it to make sure the new floor will hold up well and look great for the long haul.
