Armstrong Basketball VCT Kit Installation
6,500sqft VCT install for ND National Guard
We installed this Armstrong Basketball VCT kit at the North Dakota National Guard Armory in Valley City, ND in 2023. There were a few challenges to overcome but everything worked out.
Prepping the Floors
Floor Prep Was Crucial
The old floors were 25 year old VCT flooring with older asbestos mastic adhesive underneath that was abated prior to us commencing the work.
Floor Prep Steps:
✅ Ensure chemical abatement wouldn’t affect bond between adhesives, primers, and cement compounds.
✅ Grind concrete floor slightly.
✅ Apply one coat of primer diluted at 3 parts water to 1 part primer. Apply second coat at 2 parts water to 1 part primer.
✅ Apply Ardex V1200 Self Leveler.
Once this work was done, we could continue with the installation of the Armstrong Basketball VCT kit.

Installing the Armstrong Feature Strip
Once all the floor prep was done, we could proceed with the installation of the actual VCT basketball kit using Armstrong Standard Excelon and Premium Excelon Feature Tile and Strip.
Challenges in Installing VCT:
✅ We hardly do VCT anymore, so organizing and dividing labor tasks was trial and error. We found a good rythym and were able to make better progress.
✅ Double check measurements. We made the court too small, although that was always going to be the case, we made it too small and used up too many red tiles, so we had to pull them up the next day.
✅ Drawing the semi circles and center court circle required the use of a straight edges or pieces of wood to template the lines.
✅ More installers would have reduced the amount of days required to do install.
We did record our progress and hope to have a video up in the coming weeks in case anyone wants to see the day to day process in installing this floor. If you’re a flooring installer and have questions, please feel free to call us with any questions you may have.

TESTIMONIALS
“The task that LaValle Flooring took on was huge. The floors throughout the home needed all kinds of care in order to put down new flooring. They did so with great care and my home is reflective of their hard work. It is truly beautiful and I’m very glad I chose to have them do the work.”
