Prepping for Carpet
Floor Prep Was Crucial
A lot of installers like to say that carpet does not require prep, as it hides many imperfections. That can be true, depending on the project. However, these clients wanted Cali Floors Redefined Pine installed besides their living room, but they didn’t want a visible transition strip. They also wanted a unique curve instead of a straight line, therefore prep was crucial.
Floor Prep Steps:
✅ Install a 1/4″ plywood subfloor underneath the luxury vinyl plank.
✅ Install luxury vinyl plank, tackstrip, and z bar metal.
✅ (Not pictured) Use cement to slope up to plywood floor to avoid having uneven spot in carpet.
The prep was a little time consuming but as you’ll see, this lead to amazing results and very happy customers.

Once all the floor prep was done, we could proceed with the carpet installation in this Fargo, ND home.

✅ When clients want a custom curve, either the installers tell them to change their floor to sheet vinyl and use a brass metal transition OR they simply staple the carpet to the subfloor.
✅ Stapling the carpet to the subfloor voids your warranty and doesn’t give your carpet the best stretch possible.
✅ Everyone’s furniture layout and areas of use are unique, these Fargo homeowners got more carpet in the areas near their tv and less near their couch. The areas near their couch is next to their dining room area, so it was nice having a larger walkway in vinyl plank.
