Here is a look behind the scenes at how we planned, prepped, and completed this installation to ensure long-term durability and safety for our local client.
Planning Around the Weather
Outdoor installations present unique challenges. For this job, key considerations included:
- We used Philadelphia D3800, a high-performance outdoor adhesive. This glue requires dedicated setup and curing time to ensure a permanent bond. As it cures, it becomes increasingly water-resistant, making it ideal for exterior applications.
- Applying outdoor adhesive during improper temperatures or unexpected rain can ruin the bond. We closely monitored forecasts to choose the optimal install window.
- Above all, accessibility projects require empathy and flexibility. We coordinated around our client’s schedule to ensure minimal disruption to their daily routine.
Selecting the Material & Preparing the Ramp
For an outdoor ramp, carpet selection and technique make all the difference between a quick fix and a lasting solution:
- The Carpet: We selected Main Street Casual Boucle in Natural Twine. It delivers strong traction underfoot while offering the warm, clean aesthetic that blends naturally with the home’s exterior.
- Edge Wrapping: Rather than simply trimming the carpet flush with the top surface, we wrapped the carpet edges cleanly around the wood parameters. This crucial step prevents rain, snow, and moisture from penetrating the exposed raw wood, significantly extending the life of both the ramp and the carpet.
