Creating a Durable Space for Kids
We recently had the incredible opportunity to help transform a local space into a safe, high-traffic learning environment for Wonder World Learning Center right here in Valley City, ND.
When you’re designing a space for kids, durability, safety, and easy cleaning are the top priorities. Follow along as we showcase the materials, installation techniques, and overall process behind this commercial flooring transformation!
Where the Project Started
When Wonder World was first moving into the building, updating the flooring was a top priority. To help get their doors open quickly without disrupting their operations, we broke the project into phases.
We initially updated a few essential rooms so staff and students could get situated. Once they were settled in, we came back to tackle the rest of the facility!
The Recent Update
For our most recent phase, it was finally time to tackle the main area’s carpet, which, honest truth, looked like it had been around since Reagan’s second administration!
To bring the space into the modern era, we installed a padded commercial sheet vinyl from Forbo in the line Sarlon Wood using the color Elegant Oak. Padded vinyl is fantastic for early learning environments because it provides a softer landing for toddlers while dampening noise levels in busy rooms.
Maxing Out Durability
To make sure this floor can handle years of playtime, crafts, and heavy foot traffic, we heat-welded all the vinyl seams. Fusing the edges together effectively turns the entire floor into one continuous, non-porous sheet of material. That means zero cracks for dirt, moisture, or spilled juice to hide in!
Timing It Right
We know how busy childcare centers are, so minimizing downtime was critical. We worked directly around Wonder World’s schedule and completed the entire installation while the kids were away on Christmas break.
The kids returned from the holiday to a brand-new, comfortable, bright, and hygienic space ready for a fresh year of learning and fun!
